Brighton Hip Hop Festival

Hip Hop is one of Brighton’s largest youth cultures and Get Involved & Momi Inc are pleased to announce the first Brighton Hip Hop One Dayer aka “The Brighton Hip Hop Festival” [BHHF] SEPTEMBER 12TH 2004 12- 7pm.

Featuring the cream of Brighton’s finest MC’s, DJ’s, break dancers and graffiti artists. From 12 – 7 pm BHHF is a totally free programme of events celebrating and showcasing the best of hip-hop in Brighton.

Between 12-7pm the Ellipse outdoor stage brings you the who’s who of Brighton Hip Hop featuring Live performances from Digitek Favourite Unsigned Dance Act [Brighton Music Awards 2003], open mic showcase hosted by Slip Jam B , the mighty 8 man crew Lost Souls, Menagerie feat. Sun of Sam, hip hop funk by Sons of Tribe, leftfield pioneers Amateur Dramatics, the UK's finest gay hip hop crew- Pacman, fresh from Glastonbury all girl crew Plan B , and all star turntablists & scratch team Surgical Cuts.

Req 1 hosts the Ellipse graffiti wall and open graffiti workshop graffiti, Urban Games Finalists and Brighton’s resident breakers the Floor Crusaders host the break-dance workshop / displays and Brighton Zulu Nation member Russ Rockwell hosts the DJ workshop.

The Zap Club Kings Road Arches features the Hip Hop industry seminar special guest panellists include Radio 1 Xtra DJ Excalibah, Zebra Traffic Records, One Management (international Hip Hop artists management/agency) and Brighton Music Network.

From 8pm Zap Club also hosts the BHHF After Party.. Details to follow !

Other events include the premier screening of “South Coast: The Story of Brighton Hip Hop” docu film tells the tale of creativity in the city and sets apart the strength and diversity of Brighton’s hip hop artists.

The BHHF is co-produced by Kevin Da Costa of Get Involved & Kentaké Chinyelu-Hope of Momi Inc.

Get Involved is a non-profit organisation promoting community based music & arts events in Brighton. Events include new music showcase events, club nights & community fund-raising events attracting in excess of 5000 people. GI has recently worked with Streets of Brighton (May Festival) and is currently producing an the independent film @South Coast’ documenting the Hip Hop Scene in Brighton.

Newly established Momi Inc emerged from the successes of the London Hip Hop Festival working directly with approximately 200 artists, 90 organisations and audiences in excess of 20,000. LHHF delivered the landmark event in 2000 and 2001. Kentaké Chinyelu-Hope has established Momi Inc as a development agency for Hip Hop in the UK.
