Clever Bunny & Duxx Deluxxe - Liquid Kosh 7" [Carbon Logic]

Last year Carbon Logic came out with the Narco T release which we liked quite a lot. Now in 2004 they are back with a series of double sided 7" releases with Narco T lined up for later in the year. This 7" dropped through my letterbox unannounced and it is a bit different from what I usually tell you about. Clever Bunny have just emerged from their hermetically sealed secret laboratory to deliver their debut single, a track which their press describes as, 'Punk ass vocal track', Liquid Kosh. The group procured their name from a curious photo of a rabbit playing the piano which appears on the record label and together the two quirky producers, Doctor Fiasco and Alphamonkey mash up a curious mix of Croydon Garage, mental health literature and as they put it, 'format fooked flloydtastica'. The band encourages you to shout out the window, 'I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it any more', then bounce to the ensuing fucked up doctor patient relationship.

The Duxx Deluxxe remix of Liquid Kosh is as unique as the original... No opting for the use of the original vocals for these guys, instead they've uped the bpm and filled this flexible electro roller with everything from robot voices to Chinese traditional melody whilst the patient duly extols the woes of the dreaded Liquid Kosh.

Being non Hip Hop I don't know what you lot will make of this. To me it is very much in between genres and is just modern electronically realised music. The first version being a bit slow to be House of 'dance' music, but it does have a sort of Big Brovaz beat pattern and is complied in the best traditions of cut and paste tracks since the days of Steinski. The lyrics sound as if they could be freestyled due to their jokey half arsed delivery, but that does fit in with the lazy tone of the track. The flip however is definitely produced for the dancefloor with its uptempo beat and squidgy bassline. Speak'n'Spell letter sit alongside a very understated vocal track, but whereas the original was conveying a message there really isn't much to this track except for the music. Make of hat what you will. Perhaps this won't fit in at a hardcore Hip Hop gig, but could rock in a more diverse dance.
