| Krispy - What They Talking About EP [Skullsnap] |
The EP features three tracks and their associated instrumentals with What They Talkin Bout? which is spot on the right vibe as an opener. This track is on a bit of a club vibe with its bouncy bassline and upbeat tempo. With all their experience it seems as though Krispy can produce this quality within their stride as it all comes over as smooth, polished, well produced and effortless. The funk is definitely there and I'd expect heads to be getting down to this one. Return Call is solid Hip Hop as you would expect. The production which makes use of a heavy synth and a fairly percussive beat leaves me bouncing for all I'm worth. Lyrics are particularly aggressive as Wiz asks why someone who he thought was a friend, someone who he had invested a great deal of time in has chosen to go undercover and not get in contact. I wanted to find out why, but like someone who is cut off you are left wondering why as well and as such are left with the same feelings as the subject of the rap. Not In The Slightest sees Krispy enlist the able skills of Manchester's Konny Kon who opens up for what could be the darkest track of the release. This is a combination of a brag rap, with the MCs boosting their own skills and putting down others, but there is also a lot of clever use of multiple rhymes and as with the other tracks there is no chance of being disappointed with this. With the quality of the beats it is great to get the instrumentals as well and overall this release sees one of the UK's longest serving crews regain their position at the top of the pile on this showing. Although their releases have been rather few and far between in recent years it is great to have them back on point and hopefully we can all look out for more from these guys.
