I think the main thing that shows whether someone has the ability to make it in this game is the ability to actually get something done and to follow up on ones promises. For some people who do not have access to all the tools and contacts it can be so much harder, but never the less there are some people that struggle through and still manage to do good work. This tenacity and perseverance are character attributes that one requires to deal with all the criticisms of ones work and closed shops in terms of business opportunities. Minitcha has done just that in producing his demo to let people know what he is all about. The tracks borrow more famous instrumentals, but I would recommend to anyone who is unable to get a beat of their own for any reason to still practise making tracks and laying down vocals over other peoples beats.

On the three track demo the opening track Uninvited Guest Minitcha uses Tony Touch's Piecemaker beat and is a laid back tale of an Open Mic stage rusher who will grab the mic and keep hold of it until he has to dash before the security get him. He has a clear style and can carry a humorous story across a whole track. Get It Right is a confident display of verbalisms over Sub Question's really jazzy beat. The two styles, Minitcha's conversational style and Sub Q's easy composition synchronise nicely for a really nice track. Minitca's comedic slant is exposed more in the final Don Juan track for which he hooks up DJ Kno's Dirtay instrumental. Minitcha is able to tailor his flow to fit with the Spanish guitars and bouncy rhythm. Minitcha even has the confidence to drop a humorous sung chorus.

All together Minitcha won't really make you go mental with a release of anger, but if you want to chill and have a smile then stick on his CD. Check out what Minitcha had to say when we had a few words with him...

How old are you and where are you from?

I'm 18 from Bath, South West UK.

Who are your influences and what got you into rhyming?

Having grown up listening to likes of DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, Wu-Tang Clan, and Rakim, I started writing rhymes and lyrics after being inspired by old videos of Muhammed Ali rhyming at weigh-in rooms. Later influences include Jehst, Masta Ace, and Louis Logic amongst others.

How did you progress to performing live?

After writing rhymes, and making basic records for a year, I started performing at Bath's local open mic nights - Stonegruve Social, and Beatpimps.

How did you find your own style?

Experimenting with different styles and sounds helped me find my niche in a more funky, funny sound. I like nothing better onstage then making the audience laugh and enjoy themselves which is what I try take over into my recorded music. Never one to take myself too seriously as an emcee, I try to use aspects people can relate to and warp into
something funny rather then rigidly sticking to bragging battle tracks.

What material have you completed so far?

I have made a couple of one track promo's and had a lot of good feedback and a few promoters' offers of regular spots to emcee at. However, one problem has been that so far I have not been able to sit down with any producers and properly work on any project(s).

So how have you been putting your music together then?

So far I have used beats and instrumentals that I have minimal or no rights to, which limits what I am able to do with tunes I have written. Although, I'm still way at the bottom of the ladder in the scheme of things, I try to retain the attitude that the music I make, and the lyrics I write, are for myself, with any recognition or appreciation however small, being a great bonus.
