Edzai :: Profile

Edzai is a North London MC coming out of the sizeable Turkish community in N9. He got in contact because he has plenty of fresh material to drop on heads. Being from North London he has a vocal tone that will be familiar from a multitude of crews from around the same area like Mud Fam and Task Force etc, but would probably admit himself that he hasn't reached those levels yet. Still he does have the ability to rap in Turkish and the flows in that language are kinda nice. Still he is putting in work and he's also been producing some competent beats on the entry level favourite Fruity Loops. The Beginning
I first started trying to mc when I was 14 in 1999, mainly because I wanted to be different and do something that not many people could do. You’ve got to to understand back then there wasn’t half the amount of MC’s there are now and British rap was a lot more underground. But I didn’t start writing down proper chats until I was 16 after KSD gave me a few tapes of Eminem, 2Pac, Nas, etc. KSD used to take me down to events every now and then and get me to host his sets.

After MCing for a few months I linked up with a next producer ‘DJ ZOMBIE’. I worked with ZMB making demo tapes every week and I must have done this for about a year before they started to sound proper. I used to chat back 2 back with DINKO and MR-D on these demos.

After spending 18 months improving myself as a lyricist and an MC I started grabbing the mic at events and getting recognition for it and on new years eve 2000 I got to chat for the whole of Cema Tigh’s midnight set. After about 6 months of blagging sets I found myself MCing in a contest at a regional One Nation in March 2001. This event went off proper trust me; at the end of the night I was approached by mc DIMON who asked me to MC with him on the then Heat FM 96.6. OB and I soon built up a good partnership MCing. Sunday nights used to be proper mash up!

FAKE WORLD [ ALBUM ] is a project I've been working on for a long time now but it has been kept on a low profile. It is the title of my forthcoming Hip Hop album. I’ve really been trying to do something different with this.

The Future
I am always looking to improve myself in every aspect of being an MC, be it with better lyrics, clearer, louder, voice etc. To do this you have to take criticism constructively. I will always listen to what people have to say and use it to improve myself. MCing to Hip Hop is something I love but in order to make it as a MC I need to do something different . I will keep working at this and I’m not going to stop until I reach my goals. At 20 years old I am at the start of my career and time is on my side. So watch this space.
