Oh yes, It’s that time of year when B’Boys and B’Girls around the globe begin to make that journey to the UK, to watch, participate or to be visually amazed by what has now become one the years most eagerly anticipated event’s in the UK Hip Hop calendar.
Now to those of you that have been before (like myself for the last 3 years) I don’t have to sell this event to you, cause most of you will be there this year (again like me). But for those of you who haven’t for whatever reasons, trust me…this year would be a good one to make that trip.
I ain’t gunna say much more on the this event for now, in fact I’m gunna do that good ole “Cut and Paste” type shit and let you read one of the press releases…and then judge for yourselves
The 'B' in B-Boy stands for 'break': Break-Boy. The term 'break' refers to The break-sections of records which were extended by a DJ manipulating two copies of the same track : A B-boy would dance to these 'Breaks' the media then coined the phrase 'Breakdancing' from this. Its correct name is B-Boying'. This is the name created by 'Kool DJ Herc', who was the first man to play breaks in this way. The PlayStation 2 - UK Breakdance Championships is now: THE PS2TM UK B-BOY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2001 On 7th October 2001, The PS2™ UK B-Boy Championships returns to London's Brixton Academy for it's sixth annual throwdown, re-affirming its status as the most important event on the UK Hip-Hop calendar, and delivering a call-to-arms to the most skilled breakers the world over. As has become customary, the Championships are hosted by original B-boy 'Legend' Crazy Legs. As a founder member of the seminal 'Rock Steady Crew', 'Legs' invented many of the original - and now integral - breaking moves, including the most famous of them all - 'The Continuous Backspin' (More commonly known as 'The Windmill'). MC'ing the event alongside Crazy Legs is the irrepressible Afrika Islam; the DJ and producer of Ice-T's groundbreaking 'Power' album. Islam was the protege of modern-day icon Afrika Bambaataa .
The World's best breakin' crews will be hitting the UK to battle for this year's PS2™ B-Boy Championships. A truly international field from the UK, USA, Spain, Hungary, Germany, France, Denmark & Japan - each bringing a perspective and style unique to their own B-boy community - they represent the global reach Hip-Hop culture has. The "Solo title" will be fought out in the Individual Skillz Throwdown, as sixteen of world's most†incredible breakers will battle one-on-one , until the Supreme B-boy all rounder wins the war. The PS2TM UK B-Boy Championships is always sold out. In excess of 5000 fans attend - and travel from far and wide to be part of this unique event. If B-boy culture encapsulates the Hip-Hop spirit of expression, then the UK Championship is its ultimate stage. "It's a celebration of life, people do it cause they love it and because
it's a form of expression. There are people who want to see you all around
the world, and that want to share this experience." -
