 The hype...

The Delegates of Culture formed during the summer months of '99 – they brought themselves together from two Cambridge based collectives (Mental Minds & Co-Lab.Oration) in order to take their music to the next level of distribution and depth. Their collective aim is to make better music each n' everyday – taking beats more tight and polished but still retaining the spontaneity and energy of freestyle delivery. This dream of creating progressive hiphop sounds have blended themselves well within their debut demo CD – and soon will be unleashed upon the wax-hungry public during summer two triple zero.

The crew consists of Injanutea from Cambridge who studies music n' lamps lyrics down with a furious pace, Mad Prolific whose also from the Cambridge region and provides the beatboxing n' scientific styles within his flow, S-Class who's a skilled DJ/MC n' also the brains behind some recent mixtape releases, Dr Skuffman manages the local uk hiphop shop (VERT:ICAL) n' in the spare time produces mean beats and tight lyrics, Toeman who treads more beats for the crew, Ill Seer – a Canadian wordsmith who raps between studying tuff at University, Ninko who studies Classics (?Don't we all?) n' spits his Yugoslavian flows, Ax-Wax who produces music on a live tip and studies music at college, Chris Groove comes from the turntablist tip (Anglia Champion 2000) and finally Bee 109 who takes the spine of the crew and sort shit out whilst producing n' emceeing. As well as the Delegates these peeps S-Class, Chris Groove, and Skuffman do their thing together as the Mutators of Pi (check the intro to BrUK Faderz).

 The records & future...

They've produced a six track demo CD titled "The Delegates of Culture" with tracks including The Pinnacle, Smoke Inc Ills, Rumble with the Hunger , Organic, Lose it Nicely. S-class compiled the BrUK Faderz mixtape released a couple of months back – which also features a Delegates track being played out live (Rumble with the Hunger). They plan to release an EP titled Resented which will include the following tracks on Mo Fu Records: Resented, Lose It Nicely, Smoke Inc. Ills, Action Response. The Delegates produced a collaboration track on the BrUK Faderz tape – calling themselves Headcleaner it was called Burble Verners – it came thru with lyrics by Skuff, Mr Matrix (from Bristol), Bee 109, S-Class, and a quick line by Injanuatea – and was produced by Bee with double dark cutting from S-Class. The Delegates have performed many live shows and gained a reputation for rockin it live for the love by taking on all comers in freestyle combat and converting all types of crowd to the magnetism of homegrown skills. They've previously opened for Blak Twang, Harry Love and 57th Dynasty – n' future shows round their region include these:
~15 June - Chilford Hall (Cambridge Student Union Event - CUSU)
~18 June - New Hall Event (w/ Taskforce & Harry Love & DJ Kaos)
~19 June - Jesus College May Ball
~21 June - Trinity Hall Event and then St. Catherine's College May Ball
Plus – they can always be found representing the open mic at THE BRIDGE (run by Shiggz of Mudlumz) on the 1st Friday of every month.

 The truth...

The demo CD is a very varied EP which introduces different elements and members of the crew – and works really well as a good introduction. Some tracks work really well and overall they have a nice feel to their sound. They have many projects on the boil – and work proper hard to represent and promote themselves to the fullest – this is a right nice thing to see. I'll definitely be checking for them in the future – and think you lot should definitely give them a listen if you see one of their products hanging about your local wax emporium. If you're super keen for a listen to assess them then get in touch with them direct thru Delegates of Culture (ask for Bee) 01223 517 325 or email delegates@dtn.ntl.com or S-Class (for the BrUK Faderz mixtape) 07977758221 or email es_cee@hotmail.com.
