Celebrating all the arts of hip hop in a positive, seaside atmosphere, the
Brighton Hip Hop Festival returns to smash it in the 06. Taking place from the 1st until the 16th of July, it opens with a bang with the
Sleeping Giants vs. Graphotism Graff Jam. Over 2 days and 2 sites and with hundreds of names coming from across the world, this is the largest legal graffiti jam of the year in Europe and possibly the world. Also on a painting tip, there's
'The Art of Hip Hop Past, Present and Future" a week long exhibition showcasing both established and emerging artists inspired by hip hop culture. It's taking place at the University of
Brighton Gallery, Grand Parade, and it's on from the 3rd
until the 8th of July.
On the middle weekend, it's the turn of the breakdancers to shine at the Born to Rock Battle
Jam. The all-day event is attracting the heaviest UK and international crews to polish the lino to the sounds of some of the best breaks DJs in the UK. And the culmination of the fortnight will be the live day on the
seafront. This is the largest event of the Festival and is an all-day celebration of hip hop featuring all the best local crews and artists on a specially constructed stage. And don't forget the after-party hosted by Brighton's gutter superstars
Beer and Rap at Sumo.
Running alongside the Festival is Fresh Styles, the UK's first ever film festival devoted to hip hop and hip hop culture. They've got three screenings showing the best features, shorts and documentaries on this hip hop planet, including a gala screening of local documentary
'South Coast' rounding off the Festival on Sunday the 16th.
Come far and wide to represent by the seaside this July.
