No KRS, no MF Doom, but an 11th hour appearance from the glorious sun and changes of underwear sacrificed to fit in more cans of Stella in my backpack… it was a gloriously summerful weekend. Unexpected meetings with some of UKHH’s very infamous forum posse and constantly wondering about wondering if you recognise anyone, seeing everyone in UK Hip Hop drunk, stoned, incommunicado, trying to remember that you are there to journal not to revel, ending up in the drum’n’bass arena when you’ve had a enough of Biz Markie’s shambles and the site of one of Itch Fm’s DJs flouncing about the beach in his pants… it was a weekend to remember.

Along the way, 3 minidiscs of interviews were gathered with everyone I recognised and some of them (the ones I ran into during daylight hours) actually made sense. The others will be sequestered in the shoebox for future blackmail.

I did manage to get words with Insight, the rhyme inspector Percee P, Edan, Insight and Skinnyman into a manageable state and it is these I offer to you, the reader, to try and sum up my first Dedbeat and their first experiences of British sun…
