DMC / Technics World DJ Championships 2004 - UK Finals & Battle for UK Supremacy - Preview

DMCIt’s time once more for DJs the world over to gather under the banner of possibly the most prestigious DJ competition in the world and bash it out to win a place to the coveted world finals. Yes for the nineteenth time DMC season is once more upon us, and the UK finals are fast approaching. Following months of regional heats that saw DJs come out of their bedrooms and onto the stage, as the famous saying goes: there can only be nine left (for now anyway). These nine will now compete until only one is left, who will represent the UK at the World Finals, which will once again be held in London (see below for more info on all that).

Once more held at the Shepherd's Bush Empire, the UK finals this year are shaping up to possibly be one of the finest incarnation yet. With Scratch Perverts favourite DJ Blakey, Turntable Radio man of the moment Muzzel, as well as ex-Truesicians DareDevil, veteran Ritchie Rufftone and newcomers such as Sinical and Komplete this year’s battle should give out some sparks. Trust us there are going to be quite a few surprises in stock from certain competitors, so if you want to find out exactly what these are I suggest you get your good self to the finals, you won’t regret it.

On top of that you also get the UK Battle for Supremacy finals, where contestants go head to head in 90seconds battles, with the winner getting a ticket to the World finals and a chance to take on the World Champion of well every single battle last year, Tigerstyle.

And then as if all this wasn’t enough (yes I know it’s just DJs battling) you get live PAs from UK heavyweights Phi-Life Cypher, 2003 World Team Champions C2C, all the way from France, the aforementioned Tigerstyle and ex-Truesicians and now full time DJ/producer 2tall. Having had the chance to see and hear what all these guys have been up to recently I can tell you this is one of hell of a showcase line up. You have some team action with C2C, and we aren’t talking just scratching, juggling and your typical team routine either, Tigerstyle with a bugged out showcase which incorporates elements from his previous work, and then you have 2tall who will be bringing a totally different side of turntablism to the stage (especially to a battling night) as he showcases new material alone and equipped with just 2 tables, a mixer and a loopstation. It’s going to be a good night.

So if you are still not convinced then I suggest you forget everything you think you know about battling, get down to Shepherd's Bush, get your groove on and have a good time, it’ll be worth it, and as anyone who’s been to a DMC final before will tell you it’s much more enjoyable with a bunch of mates and loads of alcohol!
