Speed, Style and Stunts in the Summer Sun

Adrenalin charged enthusiasts - it’s that time of year again
The 6th annual Sprite Urban Games is back with a vengeance!

Sprite Urban Games

The sky is the limit this summer as Clapham Common hosts the Sprite Urban Games on Friday 23rd – Sunday 25th July 2004. The 3-day spectacular sees high-energy action from leading UK and international skaters, BMX, Freestyle Moto-X riders and B-Boys (breakdancing).

Trusicians at the Sprite Urban GamesTop name BMX and skate riders will go head to head on the newly designed streetcourse. Created by legends Zach Shaw, Shaun Scarfe and skate expert Pete Turvey, the course will be the best yet and is set to challenge all of the riders.

The BMX dirt course will host the British leg of the European King of Dirt. Expect to see some smooth flowing action from some of the best riders in the world as they compete for the crown. The FMX (Freestyle Motocross) riders will also show-off their tricks, propelling themselves 25ft sky high – the only place it can be seen in London all year.

Don’t forget the riders dropping in and throwing inverted trickery on the 12ft vert ramp as this is probably the best collection of riders you will see in the country all year. There’s both skate and BMX on the vert and in previous years, we’ve enjoyed top pros such as Simon Tabron, Jocke Olsen and Ali Cairns competing for the cash. This year the BMX vert is a qualifier for the Gravity Games – one of the biggest action sports events in the world. There are four places up for grabs, so expect to see some unbelievable performances from riders striving to get to the US. If that’ s not enough, then some world-class riders will be competing on the flatland over the three days, in what is probably the best flatland comp of the summer.

The B-Boys are set to rock the Common when the European Freestyle Session is held in the UK for the very first time. Taking place in an arena that is a third bigger than last year, the crew battles will commence to find the winners who can spin, lock and pop themselves all the way to the World Championships in Japan! UK freestylers will compete on the Friday and the International 2 on 2 competition is on Sunday – always a crowd pleaser!
New this year is the must-have AAA passes. This access all area pass guarantees you a seat for every session of the B-Boy action and a reserved area at the streetcourse- all for just an extra £10. Get in quick – they’re sure to go fast, and are only available in advance.

BMX ramp at the Sprite Urban GamesScared of a skateboard? No need to worry - ‘Have a Go Friday’ is the answer. Athletes will be on hand at the public streetcourse for the next generation of talent, giving tips and advice. The Sprite Public Streetcourse, where BMX and skaters can try and emulate the pros will be open for the whole 3 days. For any rider who cuts it a ‘ Sprite wildcard’ is on offer gaining entry into the main comp.

To inject girl power, the Powerpuff Girls clinic will be on site to help the ladies show off their gnarly tricks. Watch out boys – the girls are taking over the ramps!

Whilst cruising the awesome Retail Zone, picking out the best gear from a selection of the coolest brands and retailers, you can listen to the grooves from the live bands and DJs – blasting their sounds over the Common.

It’s the ultimate summer weekend in a great location with extreme action, so head down, grab a few drinks, chill out and enjoy the summer sun.
