Peter Mead woke up one cold January morning and decided he wasn’t going to go to work anymore. He left the snotty commuters behind, turned up the heat and began sketching out plans for a more colourful future...

What is 55designs?

It’s my own design group, except there’s just me at the moment. 55designs.co.uk is my first major web project, a standalone portfolio of my work, and a place people can get in touch with me if they want to buy any of my art or commission me for any work, I’m still verging on unknown so get me while I’m cheap.

“...When I’m sitting with a pen or a brush in my hand I’m happy...”

What kind of stuff do you do?

Mostly I paint canvases. At the moment I’m experimenting with skylines, graff influenced abstract pieces and I guess what I’d call my silhouettes series. I customise trainers as well, I think those are my favourites. Oh yeah, I like to take the odd photo too, it’s something I’d really like to explore more fully though. Saying that my current range of photography is available as a set of limited edition digital prints, might look nice in your kitchen?

Why do you paint, customise shoes, make websites, whatever it is you do?

I do what I do because I can’t stand the idea of spending another day of my life working in an office, answering the phones and revising for financial exams. Honestly, it’s what I love to do, when I’m sitting with a pen or a brush in my hand I’m happy. I woke up one morning about 8 months ago and decided I wasn’t going to go to work anymore, that I didn’t like that way of living and wanted to change it, so I did and I guess that’s what 55designs is all about.

“...I can supply canvases for your walls and fat letters for your shoes...”

So apart from laziness and money, what are your other influences?

Sunsets and roof tops, trains and bridges, bus stops, tower blocks and clouds. Everything I see when I’m wandering through London, its architecture and beautiful skies. I’d say graff has had the biggest influence on what I do, but then that’s no surprise when the kind of shapes you see within graffiti lettering are hugely influenced by the cities that it springs up in.

You’ve provided work for Boxfresh, Dream Team, the National Film School and UKHH.com, what else do you have planned?

Well, someone’s letting me loose on their BMW with an airbrush this month, hopefully you’ll see a car section added to the site soon. I’ve also just finished designing a range of t-shirts which will be on sale next month. Check my news section for details.

Nice. Ok, this is it, plug yourself in a shameless fashion…

55designs, your one stop shop for realising your design ideas. Haha, I’m kidding. I’m selling a few canvases on e-Bay at the moment, there’s links off the site, have a look, you might see something you like. Other than that, I can supply canvases for your walls, fat letters for your shoes, caps and tops, and pretty design work for your websites and CD covers. Hit me up on info@55designs.co.uk

Check the web page at www.55designs.co.uk to check this out and watch for some 55design infiltratory on the ukhh.com design layouts soon...
