Mr Hiz gets a chance to break bread with hot
producer Blufoot. A wiz behind the boards who has released wax
featuring top rhymsters including Mystro, he is now set to drop his debut long
player of production work. Peep what he had to say about his forthcoming
release, signing a record deal and the featured guest spots to come....
1.
This interview has come at perfect time. What happened to the England Football
squad then? Put out by Portugal. Nightmare! I won't go on too much about it, but
as you know, I'm Scottish and all I have to say is - "Arf, arf!"
England aren’t very good at football really are they. I think the quicker they
realise and admit it, the quicker they can do something about it.
2. Anyway, how you doing and what you been up to lately?
Doing all the final bits for the LP, and starting on some new material. There
isn’t really a specific project for the new stuff but I had to keep moving after
the first LP or I would have turned to stone. I’ve been doing some shows with
MI5 recently as well to promote the next single which will be coming to a store
near you soon - Cop that shit.
3. You just mentioned that your putting the finishing touches to your LP.
What's the deal with that, have you got a label to put it out on yet?
Yeah, it took a while and there have been a lot of negotiations but I have
finally signed on the dotted line and the LP will be released through Scenario
Records (www.scenariorecords.com)
and is scheduled for release in Sept/Oct this year.
4. Who's all on the album?
There’s quite few people and I reckon a list is too boring. I’ve put a few names
people will know on there and few people won’t but I think it’s a nice mix of
voices and styles. Jargon, Yungun, Infinite Livez all make appearances, as do
peeps like Sway, Riot, Ddubble Impactt and others...
5. Something I've been wondering for a while - what is the scene in London
really like? I mean, is there a lot of love and respect for each others music or
is it a back stabbers paradise? I'm only asking because Edinburgh has a terrible
"I'm too hard core to get Jiggy or show other artists that they're doing
anything good" mentality.
I'm a bit of a loner musically. Other artists seem cool when you meet them
though and everyone seems to pat each other on the back rather than stab it. But
maybe that’s where we are going wrong? maybe we should all walk around telling
each other "your wack mate, i'm really not feeling your mediocre vibe" - I
reckon that might be the extra push we need to develop our artists into Bentley
hiring, hollow jewellery wearing w**kers, it WOULD be very entertaining to watch
on channel U.

"...I prefer to
work with an MC, at least for the initial period - I hate making 'stock beats'
and then handing out beat discs to MC's to choose beats from, that bores me...”
6. What artists are you feeling in the UK just now?
Yungun - I think he's really developed well as an MC and you can see him
becoming a lot bigger, well I can anyway, and then, well, I don't want to be
accused of nepotism but most of the cats on my LP are doing it right now, and
when I say that - they've mostly got their own projects going now and that’s the
shit I'm feeling - Riot's EP on Pepa Records is gonna be fire and MKD are
starting to do their thing now, they feature Yungblud who is also on the next
single with Mystro and he is a dangerous MC.
7. Do you think acts like Dizzie Rascal/Blazing Squad/The Streets etc are a
good thing for the scene? I mean, they all rap in their own accents don't they.
Yeah - I think they're great, but I'm not trying to smash the charts apart with
the brand new sound from the 'urban' streets - I just wanna make good hip hop,
so what they're doing doesn't really have a bearing on what I do, apart from
they are putting the UK accent into more people ears and that can only be a good
thing. There seems to be two camps of UK hip hop now as well, on one side you
got the people that wanna be just like big time American rappers but with UK
accents. They're easy to spot coz they dress just like them and rap about the
same shit, and then you got the side that just wants to make hip hop and doesn't
care what Lil' Jon or Luda are up to. Its the first type that wanna watch what
Dizzie and them are up to coz they're gonna steal ya shine thunny!!!

"...it took a
while and there have been a lot of negotiations but I have finally signed on the
dotted line and the LP will be released through Scenario Records and is
scheduled for release in Sept/Oct this year...”
8. Are you working on anything else apart from your LP - like beats for other
rappers, remixes etc?

 |
I'm working on the forthcoming Natural Born Spittaz project with Mystro and
Jargon which is gonna be big when it drops. I'm also working on some material
for Pepa Records, but I'm not sure who the MC is yet. And I'm also doing some
work with Last Skeptic although we've only just started on this so it will be a
while before it escapes my evil clutches.
9. Who would you most like to work with?
Courtney Devine.
10. How do you go about making beats - is it a case of making the beat with a
rapper in mind or just put it together and then think of an emcee who would
sound nice on it?
I prefer to work with an MC, at least for the initial period - I hate making
'stock beats' and then handing out beat discs to MC's to choose beats from, that
bores me - I prefer to see the MC when I start to make the beat, then I can
really get a feel for what they like and what I can get from them - it makes a
better final product in my eyes.
11. What's your favourite track that you've done?
Its gotta be Keep Smilin' by Mystro on the B-side of Open Mic. Its mad coz its a
real message from Mys to his long time mate inside - Its just that I know Mys
and if you listen real careful there’s a point where emotion nearly gets the
better of him - and to capture that on vinyl is class, but that’s a very
personal choice.
12. We all have songs that we wish we had produced, rapped on, done cuts for.
What's yours?
Shit, dunno - weird one that.
13. Do you plan to keep at this Hip Hop thing until you can eventually make
enough money off it to live, or is it more a hobby then a Full Time job?
I'm living off it now - but I live like a Pikey.
Haha!! To be honest mate, I think the majority of the UK scene live like
Pikey’s, with the exception of a select few.

"...I’m a bit of a
loner musically...”
14. If you had to make up a CD of 5 UK tracks to send over to the US to
promote our scene, what tracks would you put on it?
I'd send 'em my LP sampler and hope they don't realise all the production is by
me - you never know, I could finally get that Fur Coat and Bentley I always
wanted after all.
15. What's your plans for the future?
I'm gonna have a busy promotional schedule soon and I'll try and get some new
material finished off in between but really I'm gonna get my head down before
and try to get involved in as many releases as I can.
Nice one bro, keep at it. I’m sure I can speak for a great majority of the UK
scene when I say we’re looking forward to your album.
16. Any shout outs?
Nah
Fine then.
