Hi, Edan, how is Dedbeat going for you?
It’s been wonderful. Basically, I haven’t had time to wind down and relax in
about two weeks. And Insight and I did the show last night and it was good
getting love from the crowd. As an artist, you tend to notice the mistakes a lot
of the time, but it was the first time we had done this particular set. It felt
really good, and a lot of people coming up to me, a lot of flattery from
different directions. I feel really blessed, very fortunate. So now, I’m just
bugging out seeing some familiar faces, catching up with people I haven’t seen
in a while. So, I’m in good spirits.
Did you stay for Percee P?
Yeah, I mean, you know, he’s just a sweet person, a good person before anything.
anD he's a genius on the mic. He told me he wishes he had come out a long time
ago, seeing the love he got here. And he never really did it 10 years ago. It’s
great to see him come out here and just get down. I fully support him.
The “I See Colours” 12” has just come out. What’s new album like?
What did you think of it? Cos I know it’s a little off-key. The stuff I’m doing
now… I’m very bored right now. The flavour I might want to taste right now might
not be for everybody. I think those that do enjoy it, they can’t get that shit
anywhere else. They have to come to me for that particular blend. Hopefully
there’ll be people that want that. I’ve always been into psychadelic records.
When I say psychadelic, I’m referring to vivid music that stimulates your
imagination. I’m happy with it. I just gotta finish this album. I’m about two
songs away from finishing it. I’m proud of the single. I know it may be seen as
unorthodox. That’s what it’s about for me, just pursuing my own vision and it’s
something you can’t find elsewhere, otherwise I would not be making a
contribution.

"...I’m
referring to vivid music that stimulates your imagination..."
How is the album an evolution from “Primitive Plus”?
I mean, it’s interesting. It’s definitely a vision from start to finish. It
definitely the feel of being one long song. The album will be short. It’s be
about 33 minutes long, harking back to the days of Kinks or Beatles records.
It’s like 16 minutes a side. When I’m at the crib listening to records, I’ll
throw a side on and move on to the next one. My attention span isn’t really for
a 60 minute record these days. The record will be short, and complete. It’ll be
psychadelic, not to abuse that term. I almost to say it’s a caucasian
sensibility of 60’s music that I got from growing up with the Beatles and early
Pink Floyd and putting that into hip-hop, which I think will provide a unique
experience for the listener.
When will it be out, do you think?
I think, like September or October.
Who in the UK scene are you hoping to check at Dedbeat?
I’m gonna check out Ty. I saw a couple of groups before. PDF?
DPF…
Yeah, DPF. Excuse me. They got the crowd open. I’m not as critical as I used to
be of what cats are actually doing. I have an open mind and if you’re doing it
from the heart, and the crowd is open and responding to you, I respect that. I
don’t know who else is here but I am open to all of it. Is there any acts I
should check out?

"...It’s
definitely a vision from start to finish. It definitely the feel of being one
long song..."
Roots Manuva is here…
Oh yeah, I forgot he’s here. Yeah, I wanna check him. I hear he puts on a great
show.
Any final thoughts…
I’m not religious really, I am spiritual. And I think people should spread love.
If you have a way of spreading love, do it…
