The murder mile's Sir Smurf Lil' is one 1/4th
of The Colony and has rocked numerous
open mics, and a variety of clubs across the city of London. It can be
honestly said that Sir Smurf brings a very refreshing and ear pleasing
feel to the Hiphop scene. Chris Bryne had a few quick words with the
man…
How was it working
with Jehst?
Sir Smurf Lil': Working with Jehst has been an eclectic
experience, for me personally it has been a form of artist development,
not only in the music aspect, but also within the business side itself.
You can never learn enough in this business as there is always room for
development, so I truly thanx the Billy Brim for the additional
guidance.
What is your
opinion of influential journalists (i.e. Mike Lewis) also owning
promotions companies?
Sir Smurf Lil': It can only lead to a good thing fam, some think
which can in the long run become beneficial for both parties. It’s
Occurrences like this, which aids and adds to the contribution of what
can benefit us within U.K Hip-Hop.
What is the live
U.K Hip-Hop scene like at the moment?
Sir
Smurf Lil': The scene is roaring especially within the last quarter
of the year, I mean apart from myself there were numerous amount of
artists that had dropped albums within the last quarter: Tor, Kashmere,
DJ IQ, Kyza, YunGun & Mr. Thing, Supa Nova, Foreign Beggars, and
Braintax. At first I was a little concern especially due to what would
inevitability be a loss within album sales for us artists, but it was
what was needed, a big ass sound wave. Thank god I had a tour to support
my product, and trust me fam through out the touring experience its
indulges me knowing that the U.K Hip-Hop scene is L.I.V.E.
Do you download
music? Or is it a moral issue?
Sir Smurf Lil': I would be lying if I said that I have never
downloaded before, but I have to admit if its an album and I am feeling
it I usually go out and bye the product, especially as I like to read
through the credits to find out who did what, and from what records were
sample breaks taken from. I just feel that the downloading has to be
properly regulated cause it’s the artist that is losing out in a big way
fam True-Story.
Is the U.K Hop-Hop
scene suffering from the loss of Undercover Magazine? The free C.D’s
have lasted the test of time?
Sir Smurf Lil': Everything that has a beginning has an ending fam,
the loss of Undercover Magazine is definitely a course and effect to the
scene, the more publicity that works in our favour the better. But
things happen in order for something greater to happen which we usually
can’t foresee.

"...trust
me fam through out the touring experience its indulges me knowing that
the U.K Hip-Hop scene is L.I.V.E...."
Why didn’t you
show up to your Aldershot gig?
Sir Smurf Lil': Whatever gigs that I didn’t show up to were gigs
that our booking agent had been informed were cancelled, or either was
yet to be confirmed due to promoters not getting back to us. My
apologies to the people who did turn up expecting to see the Smurf and
never did.
Who should we be
looking out for in the 07? Anything you would like to add?
Sir Smurf Lil': Look out for YNR’s new signing who goes by the
name of Jyager, and Smurf, amongst other YNR releases coming in the year
James 007, as my word is my bond, have your self a nasty new year
peace…!
