Straight out of Melbourne, Australia comes a producer quickly rising up the ranks of popular music. Not content rocking the boards for Chamillionaire, Kelis and Snoop, Styalz Fuego has reached out to some UK emcees with his trademark sound. Resident beatsmith The Last Skeptik caught up with him for a few questions…
You’ve obviously worked with some of hiphop’s most revered, from Snoop, to G Rap and Busta. What’s been the secret to your success?
I guess just making good music, being business minded, having a strong team and management and never becoming complacent. I’m never content with where I’m at so that keeps me looking for that next level ya know… shout out to Weez, and Myst at SO Empire Management.
How much do you interact with the Oz scene?
I’m involved… just a little bit haha but there’s alotta haters and not so much money so I try to stay pretty detached in a sense, you know. I do my work when I’m paid right and stay out of the politics. At the end of the day I’m about making music and making money and what doesn’t have anything to do with that is that extra bullshit I avoid.
Which is more important – love for the music, or desire for international success?
I love making music but I also love money and all that good stuff, and essentially if I wasn’t making music I wouldn’t be making money… I can’t choose; ‘cause the desire for greater success drives me to make greater music ya dig...

Who is your favourite emcee in the world right now?
Weezy F Baby, hands down. “Why complain on easy street, I don't even talk, I let the Visa speak and I like my Sprite easter pink” haha.
You’ve worked with Stylah – what do you think of UK emcees – and any more plans to collaborate with British rappers?
Yeah Stylah’s my dude, I did his upcoming single “Them Boys” with Grafh and we got a remix that’s gonna be the bizness. I like UK emcees; Sway, Lowkey, Kano... those dudes are dope. Oh yeah and them dudes Big Brovaz, they wassup .. haha nah I’m fuckin’ with you on that last one though.
If you could produce a banger for a 80s new romantic pop band’s comeback album, what band would you pick, and why?
Damn you gonna make me choose one? I’m an 80’s beast so I’ma roll with a few. Howard Jones ... Human League, you know, some 2007 electro pop/new wave shit, it’d be hilariously dope. Ayo, I’ve got tracks in the stash for that, so holla at me Howard Jones, Human League... let’s make this happen haha.

I think Timbo should delegate some of the new Duran Duran album to me… I’m actually excited to see how that project comes out.
With all these heavyweight collaborations – where next for Styalz?
I’ma be over there in the UK doin’ my thing for a quick minute so I’m just grindin’... but right now I’m all about my mixtape, “TRUCK!” The Best of Styalz Fuego ... hosted by DJ Smallz. It’s up for free download at www.styalz.com and it’s really fuckin’ good, I’m not lying to you beezys. So yeah, go download that shit. It features Chamillionaire, Grafh, Kool G Rap, Jin, Nino Bless, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Stylah, N’fa, Killah Priest and more… and it’s free!
Other than that, I’ve got a bunch of major label stuff in the US, Europe, Asia and Australia, so I just gotta stay consistent and keep things moving ya know.
