interview 0141 added 01.05.03 words: Lady Cook technical: QED

C – Mone is a female MC from Nottingham, formerly in the group Out Da Ville, she is now busy organising the release of her solo tunes… I caught up with her via e.mail for a quick update….

C-Mone LC: Tell me about your new single?

C: This will be my solo debut, it’s a self-funded white label. There are 3 tracks: UK CHANT (A classic underground anthem), DUTTY (Rowdy, MC bragging track) and TALES OF THE VILLE (Raw Reality heartfelt track).

LC: Who does the production?

C: The 12" is produced by Nick Stez from Da Ville – da man dat made BloodsweatnTearz, Crepes, Heroes die etc.

LC: Do you ever make beats yourself?

C: Yep! On Logic and da MPC at the moment, getting to grips with them; I’ll be putting out beats in a year or two; I wanna take my time n do it proper ya get me.

LC: You’re a solo artist now, how different is that to being in Out da Ville?

C: I had been involved in da business side of things before and so this is the next level: from collaborative artist to fully fledged independent woman, being 21 and all made me wanna take that next step, and so far its been fun to handle biz, paperwork. The creative sides now more intense, I can for it, say what I want when I want how I want…I’m looking forward to putting out more solo ish.

LC: Tell me about your tunes you released with Out da Ville – I get confused who was on what!?

C-MoneC: Da Ville Goes On, BloodsweatnTears, 3 Wize Men…

LC: I know you – like all ODV – did a lot of collaborations, are there any artists you’d particularly like to work with? (not just Hip Hop, worldwide)?

C: Prince, he’s mad creative, it would be da case of the two mad scientists for real!

LC: You told me a while back that you wrote poetry, have you any plans to release or publish any of your poems?

C: Straight up poems, maybe one day, for now I just entwine my poetry within da raps.

LC: Do you feel that you are a role model for young women?

C: Kinda, sometimes youth from around da way will look up to me – it’s scary but if ya gonna be a performer ya can’t be ignoring that situation; It’s the price of notoriety/being known, gotta give something back to the community that’s how I feel. Myself and other performers do a night at Russel Youth Club called Cre8 for 8 –21 year olds and myself and 2 DJs: Squiggly and OBI do a free live hip hop night at the Cheq Bar, Nottingham da last Weds of every month.

LC: What advice do you have for up and coming artists?

C-Mone and RedzC: Enjoy yaself and spread a little love.

That’s all for now!

Whilst the print media continue to sleep on C – Mone, I hope that her sheer talent will propel her towards the sales and recognition she truly deserves.

Go buy the record!!!!!
