In the streets of North West London there is a rhymer who has been making noise recently with his superb new mixtape ‘Road Work’. As part of the organisation that is ‘The Good Samaritan Music Project’ aka TGSMP, Swift is destined for big things. I found out more on all things Swift….

When did you start taking the rap thing serious?

I have been serious now for about two and a half years, working on the TGSMP album, my mix CD’s etc. Right now I’m working on my forthcoming album.

So you’ve dropped two mixtapes now. What's the response been like?

Been real good on an underground level, which to me is a real good ting because my audience are the street heads, so to hear people banging out my tunes at high volume makes it all worth it. I still yet to make waves on a national level, but I think I am getting there bruva! I just gotta keep grindin’.

There’s a lot of MC’s coming from the smoke. Do you feel that this makes it harder for you to get heard?

Definitely, but not only is everyone and their mother an MC, but 8 out of 10 ‘UK artists’ are terrible, so when you run up on a DJ, music executive, magazine/internet heads, as far as they’re concerned they’ve heard all that big talk before and are reluctant to even take your product, let alone actually listen to it and give it a proper critique. So yes bruv it makes the grind a lot harder but at the same its good cause it separates the hard workers to the lazy wanna-be MCs.

You are connected with TGSMP. Whats the deal with Charlie parker and Paradise?

Dem boys there are currently working on the HipHopera (www.myspace.com/tgsmp) as well as scheduling release dates for the album singles, videos and what not. Hard work all day long!

"...I’m not trying to be controversial, I just say what I feel needs to be said. I haven’t got time to be walking on egg shells or side stepping around issues which I feel strongly about..."

So with the mixtape fully on road what are ya next plans?

The Album! I’ll be hitting the DJs with singles within the next couple months; tracks are already sounding fire bruva! It should be out by the end of the year, I’m trying to get a good distribution deal set up right now, because I can’t have this album unheard by anyone!

Do you see the scene in London at the moment as healthy?

Yes & no, yes in a sense that it’s channelling the minds of a lot of under privileged kids to something more positive than running road and that’s for in and out of London. Plus talent is booming. However, the amount of proper shit that I come across in means of Mix CDs, Albums, videos etc. is ridiculous and unhealthy for the scene because eventually companies and consumers will switch off.

How would you describe your style?

I’m snappy, unorthodox, conscious, clever, creative and still improving!

As far as UK artists go, who would you like most to work with?

Well one person on my list is ticked off and that’s Malik from Moorish Delta 7. I’d like to work with Unorthodox, MSI & Asylum, Terra Firma, Task Force, Out Da Ville if they’re still going!?, N Double A, there’s an endless list to be honest bruv. I’m a big fan of UK hip hop firstly, so my wish list is endless.

What producers you working with?

I’m working with Boy Wondah, Karisma, Maguyver & Charlie P

Have you been doing many shows?

Nope, last year I did tons of shows and for the best part of 2004 and for me personally, I didn’t feel like it benefited me as far as recognition. The amount a times I performed with a shabby PA system and had to rely on the exhibition side of the show annoyed me. Obviously you’re they’re to entertain your audience but I’m an MC that wants & needs you to listen to what I’m saying and so I’ve decided to limit shows this year and work strictly on material and already its paying off, I’m doing this interview for starters and I’m sure you’ve never seen me perform!

You touch on controversial topics on the mixtape?

I suppose I do but to be honest, I’m not trying to be controversial, I just say what I feel needs to be said. I haven’t got time to be walking on egg shells or side stepping around issues which I feel strongly about. Suppose you can call it ‘keeping it R…..’! Don’t make me say it!

Is getting messages across in ya lyrics something you really work at?

Yep, my reckless little brother is the inspiration to most of my stuff cause I feel like it’s the only way I can actually talk to him and people like him. But it is music and so the first and most important factor is entertainment which is where I find a lot of ‘Conscious’ MCs can go wrong.
