Hmmm, the necessary evil that is the profile.
That constant search for definition.
Admittedly it’s a concept that’s ultimately redundant because it tells you everything and nothing about the writer: regardless of that, here’s my journey into self-indulgence anyway.
At the age of ten my Boba Fett obsession was replaced by an intrigue for an artform that, although little known or understood by the mainstream, had a type of potency through manipulation of words and dialect unrivalled by any other version of low or high culture. It’s held my attention every day since.
Along with the beats and rhymes, this culture is an expression of freedom. No matter how many shape-shifting crustaceans come along to try and fuck this up, stroke their own egos, or abuse it for the money, the culture will always evolve, re-invent itself and come back stronger.
It’s like Supa T said, “There’s mad people out there that are gonna fuck up UK Hip-Hop and it could be the people you least expect...ultimately it’s a beautiful thing. It’s fucking wicked, do you know what I mean?”
I do.
