This is the second demo from Troy Scalpels, a few of the tracks on this demo should be on his debut EP, but I’m not sure which ones. This demo certainly gives me a taste for his EP, and I should have thought most would agree. The first thing you notice is his amazing ability to tell stories, may be not quite up there with Ras Kass just yet, but the potential is there. The fact he is the UK National Battle Champ is not much of a surprise, as soon as you hear the wordplay on ‘It Happened’. This track gives some immensely graphic imagery of the hell holes that are night clubs. About how people go to them not for the enjoyment, but to make it shit for everyone else. ‘Petrified of getting stuck or their face slashed for trying to conceal and 8th of hash, happened in a flash’ now that is some nice lyrics, the beats are plain but the lyrics make up for that. The next track ‘What What What’ has VERY plain beats, but again very nice lyrics that keep you listening very hard. My favorite track is ‘Wrap Em UP’, its wicked, its has some highly head nodding beats with a nice little sample. The lyrics on this are fucking ridiculous, I don’t think this bloke breaths very often which is just as well or he’d be dead! Very few tracks, bar Taskforce have such sustained lyrics all the way through. The last track ‘When I’m Peepin’ again has nice production, sorta a romantic beat, but the content sure ain’t romantic. Its all about dirty fantasies on a tube ride, needless to say the wordplay on this track is superb as he just seems to tell a story without ever having to go off the plot to get it to rhyme. Fookin nice demo this, and not long to wait for his ‘I Must Not Spit In Class’ EP. So make sure your keeping your eyes open for this bloke. One thing I would criticize on is the beats. The two tracks were I like the beats he shines much more. I’m very much a lyrics man myself, but it may turn off a few of the beat freaks.
