 Stopout My Life (demo)

Hailing from the Midlands, I first came across MC/ Producer Stopouts tracks on his myspace page and was immediately impressed. From this he sent me a CD of tracks he has done so far- a Demo, rather than a full album.

After a few listens I found Stopouts beats to be more musical than most UK Hip Hop offerings- making good use of string sections and piano loops. They are particularly easy on the ear and serve as a great backdrop for his honest lyrics that range in subject matter from loneliness suffered by the elderly to many artists obsession with material things.

Particular standouts are 'Shadows', 'Lonely' and 'Will I'. All of which display a philosophical, intelligent mind with stories to tell and plenty to say.

One thing that could be seen as an obvious weakness is Stopouts tendency to use beats and lyrics that are very introspective. Although this is what I consider his main strength; the ability to display raw honesty over sweet radio-friendly sounds, it may grate on some of the purists.

Almost all of the songs display an emotional side in the vein of Mike Skinners 'Dry Your Eye's' or 'Never Went to Church'. If this kind of conscious, reflective sound is your bag, you will love Stopout. If your looking for harder, more aggressive vibes then look elsewhere
