 HP H Propaganda EP

A member of the Lost Souls, HP is an MC who’s been getting his name about on the scene by supporting many big name acts and appearing on mixtapes and compilations. This is his debut solo EP on the Brighton-based label, Janomi Records and features four tracks with two added instrumentals.

The EP kicks off with the title track ‘H Propaganda’, HP states his intentions with a barrage of battle lyrics laced over a pounding beat. HP displays a comfortable flow although he does spit some cheesey similies such as “face your last stand like custer” “never been a cowboy like the cast of bonanza” he does make up for this with dope line “your rappings like daybreak, I hear a cock crowing”. A good intro, I’d term this track as solid if unspectacular.

The second track ‘Swindleberrybush’ is the stand out track of the EP for me. HP excels in his storytelling over a quirky beat. HP describes the life of a dodgy dealer, selling “slightly schnide herb” and other dud drugs to anyone he can. The track stays interesting from a story perspective all the way through and the humorous actions of the flawed dealer are expressed through HPs well chosen words.

The 3rd track ‘Double Damage’ is another foray into the battle zone and features Devise who again impresses me no end as he has on every one of his guest appearances I’ve heard with some ill flows and lyrics “you may as well stick the mic down ya pants and let your arse do the talking”. HP and his guest trade verses over a stomping beat, HP comes correct on this track matching Devises skills with an assured flow and good lyrics.

The final track ‘Vicious Circle Movement’ is more on introspective affair. G-Petzs reflective beat provides a perfect backing for HPs observations and wishes. This is a track I’m sure many who’ve struggled with life at some point can relate to “I’m sick of waiting, sick of sitting here thinking things will start changing”. HPs intelligent and perceptive lyrics impress and give this track the rewind factor to keep you coming back to listen to it again and again.

Overall this is a good EP; one I’d definitely recommend you check out. HP is on point on the tracks and he’s picked out some nice beats to rhyme over. I’m looking forward to hearing more stuff in future from him and I’d certainly like to hear some more of his expert storytelling as displayed on the excellent ‘swindleberrybush’. HP – a name to remember.
