The first offering from the new Champions of Nature crew is straight amazing. Its sorta what you could expect from a crew which pretty much brought us the many of the releases on Lowlife over the last three to four years. The quality of the tracks released on this EP are pucca - both in terms of production with two tracks each by L Dolo and Lewis Parker and vocals - I mean with.... Supa T, Jehst, Lewis Parker, Profound, n' AM... it was gonna be slightly alright innit!!! So steppin to the title track - The Fuck Off Song". A sample laden intro leads through with a huge brassy sounding stab suddenly completely dominating - this totally provides the tempo for the L Dolo created track. The production remains this simply effective throughout - sometimes a wandering haunting synth floats through with some more samples - "B-B-B-B-Bring the truth out the dark into the B-B-Broad daylight - lets travel at magnificent speeds across the Universe". But fuck it - this is all beside the point - the emcee's completely tear it apart. Supa T flows with the tasty accent n' lyrics to go - making a raw comeback from his supposed retirement, Lewis Parker rips subtle punches which require careful rewinds to catch the fuller meaning, and to complete the finish off Profound shows his mettle as well although sometimes he can be hard to catch within the large bassy stab. The second track "An Undercurrent" allows Profound to show those skills some more - taking the solo lyrical duties on this smoooth soundscape. Lewis Parker handles matters on the boards n' serves up a rich layered beat - piano tinkles n' string swoops across a simple snare kick type doobie. Profound raps with good rythm throughout to intertwine his rap with the track - a totally complete package.... and I'm not going to mention his lyrics - you gotta listen. Third up is the track "360" - featuring AM whose a totally new head to me cos I aint from London (but to tell you - AM's been rhyming for time around London but is known for his DJing at The Homegrown Entourage and also more recently for London MC Estelle). The tracks kicks off with birds cackling - see its AM innit duh - then a huge chunky L Dolo break snaps your neck off and AM's understated delivery flows thru. He's got good delivery - nicely quick verbally but still very understandable and clear. Lastly a Lewis Parker creation with Jehst on the m.i.c. This track titled Carpe Diem has quite small production - i.e. theres not much of it really.... small break and small piano loop and a tiny quiet sample of some fella mumbling about freaks. BUT the trick is - fuck it - you gotta give people room to hear Jehst's lyrics - n' trust you get ample opportunity to listen here.... he dominates the track. The man is just ridiculously skilled - madness lyric after lyric on the go. An amazing way to end the EP of the year without doubt. 2000's gonna have to work hard to bust a move on this set. A pucca EP for sure...I wanna hear more but I know I will get to soon seeing how productive this firm is right now....proper - its heads taking upon themselves to take it to the next level - no label off just their own backs - SUPPORT THIS.
