Get this. Buy this. Own this. If only for the track of your summer, “The Slewage”. AMMO have slowly been building up a following over the years, getting various high profile acts and people like 1Xtra behind them. They finally deliver with a release guaranteed to blow the underground wide open. “The Slewage” is built around an urgent high pitched synth melody with the most gorgeous lover’s rock vocal sample, crooning over it for the hook. Cariz and Keelo tear the half-speed beat apart by changing up their rhythms constantly. The production by Kaan on this EP is top notch and you can see why management contracts have been floating about these people. Working on hard-hitting drums and bouncy yet meaningful patterns, as well as good synth melodies and acoustic guitars, the production is complimented by the excellent interplay of Cariz and Keelo, two extremely underrated rappers. “Politrix” is another banger with an incessant melody driving a conscious polemic whilst the acoustic guitar-led “Stereotypes” has some good reggae-tinged moments. This is a banger of an EP, completing blowing my headphones off, setting a strong standard for the other CD’s I’ve been sent this month. Buy this now.
