Akira the Don Akira the Don's First EP EP
If Jesus had blonde hair, came from Wales and decided to embark on a career as a rapper then he would be Akira the Don, or at least look like him.
This Rock looking lad looks more like Guns and Roses than Eminem. However, appearances are often decieving, and in this case, very decieving, because when Akira opens his mouth on a track you can't help but think "This guy's got skills" When Akira puts pen to paper you get the feeling he's really thinking about what he's writing about and not just spitting you a lot of old rubbish.
His lyrics are deep, conceptual, thought provoking, full of energy, anger and rage.
He uses his voice in a way i've heard no other British Emcee use before, like he's had lessons in rapping or something?
Whatever he's done, he's done it well, taught himself well and brought us a great debut EP.
Akira the Don's first EP (yes, that's the name of it) is 4 tracks deep. Sometimes i wish it had more on there, but as they say "Less is more" and he definitely leaves you wanting more.
From the dark strings on the first track (John the Baptist) to the upbeat/Chas and Dave style of Akira the Don's drinking song, he has stamped his mark as someone with a wide variety of styles and open mind to music. Akira aka Adam Alphabet has a wiked style of rapping/poetry. I say poetry because it's not your usual style of rapping your getting here, it's something different, something a bit special.
He's been compared to the Streets and Dizzie Rascal but to be honest he sounds nothing like any of them. I think the reason for this is plain and simple, he's been signed to a major. Who else do the British public know in the "UK Hip Hop/Urban community" apart from these two, so i guess it's just inevitable that anyone coming up will get compared to them, but he has something totally different to offer. A style that will make people think "Where has this guy been hiding?"
The stand out track for me is 'One Bullet' where he raps "it only takes one bullet to kill the President" "Then f*ck the hole in your skull for a Dollar" "You'll feel better if you get a big f*cking gun and slaughter everyone" You get where i'm going? If he makes the charts he's going to have some serious greif for these lyrics. Hahaha! I love it!
Fingers crossed we see Akira the Don in the near future, hiting up the Top Ten, sitting next to Cat Deeley talking about the meaning behind his raps. Now that i would love to see.
4 out of 5, 9 outof 10. Cop that sh*t!!
