Sway One For The Journey EP
“This is not the second album, this is the prequel to the sequel”. This is surely music to the ears of the army of Sway fans. So this EP is merely a stopgap until the next LP shows and if this is anything to go by, Sway’s not lost any of his charm, appeal and hunger.
Starting off with the West coast tinged crunk anthem “True Stories”, Sway shows that his recent success hasn’t got to his head and he’s still going to rep for the streets. From there the energy levels unbelievably turn-up to 11 (Spinal Tap yeah?) with what can only be described as musical war on “Move Back”. This will probably be banned by club promoters for fear of the roof being lifted off the venue. There’s still plenty of the fun and piss taker Sway on this EP too, with the tale of unresolved parentage on “Baby Father” and the soft as “Ex Boyfriend” which has all the vocal play that he does so well. There’s even room for a heavy remake of “Up Your Speed” feat. Chamillionaire and the recent single by the Stanton Wariors “Get ‘Em High”.
This is exactly what Sway needed to do on the back of his current work; to provide the fans with some heavy weight material to let him know he’s still hitting the high notes. This is especially important after the rather disappointing mixtape that was released. With this EP it’s clear he still has loads more to offer, so roll on the next album.
