The Bug Poison Dart EP
Further blurring the distinction between Ninja Tune and Big Dada releases comes The Bug. The Bug, real name Kevin Martin, has released music on a plethora of acclaimed electronic labels, Rephlex, PIAS and Soul Jazz to name but a few. On the ‘Poison Dart’ EP laser snaps; murky reverbs, and harsh syncopated future-dub excesses are complemented by the tribal flows of Warrior Queen. The Skream remix ventures into spazzed out dance-floor friendly territory without compromising any of its dystopian narrative. Japanese turntablist DJ Baku is on call for another distorted flip of PD, incorporating Roll Deep’s Flowdan.
Catch the digital bundle for further remixes by hype man dem South Rakkas Crew and Stereotyp. But The Bug’s sound is captured best by the massive ‘Skeng’, again featuring the distinctive vocal talents of Flowdan. ‘Skeng’ carries off like some sort of apocalyptic musical war cry, eerie, evil and every bit infectious as any of the current stellar dubstep releases. On this form The Bug might just be the man to piece together Hip hop, grime and dubstep in 2008. Get involved.
