 Styly Cee The Crusoe EP

Forget whether you liked Lost Island album or not, because Styly Cee comes different on this release. Its got those nice funky beats that you’ve come to expect, but its got some different emcees gracing his wicked beats. To me this EP is bare quality from the first time you see it, the fact that you get two slabs of wax, one with the tracks and another with the instrumentals and bonus bits. I personally think that’s a huge sign of the quality that has gone with this release.

The tracks are of high standard also, some more than others but overall you’ve got a very solid release with plenty of killer cuts on it. From the intro to the end you’ve got beats that sound as crisp and as well produced as they come, even if ‘Laughin’ At Ya’ does sound somewhat Mark B like. One thing that has struck me whilst listening to this EP is that Styly Cee can actually hold his own the old M.I.C. Sure his flow is going to win him ‘Mic Controller Of The Year’ award, but what he raps about is interesting. Like on ‘Laughin’ At Ya’ when he disses the hiphop media. My favourite Styly Cee lyrical moment is on ‘Filter Out The Weak’ with is great 4 elements feel, and disses at B-boys who rip styles of ‘Breakdance- The Movie’ and the Graffers who do shit throw-ups. The fact he drops this rhyme over a spanking up-tempo old skool feeling beat is just a bonus, wicked!

Its got to be said the best tracks though are the ones that feature other rappers. ‘No Pain, No Gain’ features Cappo and Scor-Zay-zee, who both spit pure cobra venom over the beats. Scor-Zay-Zee impressed me more and more every time I hear him, definitely one to watch. The track of the EP has to go to ‘All Stylz Anthem’ which features Karizma and Midnyte, its fully an anthem like what they tried to achieve. I’m not joking when I say that this is likely to be one of my summer anthems, because it is fully perfect and if I heard it in a club I’d fully throw down like my name was ‘lino’. The beat could get an arthritic geriatric doing six-steps, not a beat you want to hear at the end of the night when your worn out for sure! The emcees do this beat proud, because if they did arse it up they’d be up for 1st degree hiphop beat murder. Its no wonder this track was chosen to represent Son Records on the ‘Wordlab 2’ compilation!

Do I think you should by this? Hell yeah, if you don’t like it then I’m not sure if there is a cure. If this can’t get the most miserable b-boy up on his twinkle toes, then, I dunno but its so bad I haven’t even thought of it yet!
