 Various Full Fat EP EP

“Buttercuts is a new independent record label aiming to promote fresh UK Hip Hop” is what the press release states, and with releases like this, they are going to make a substantial impact. My only complaint about this promo I got in the post is that it isn’t long enough, there are only three tunes on it, but I am hungry for more and my attention is aroused. Code Breaker kicks of this release with the track “Doubters” His flow and accent is clear, precise and perfected. This is explained as a raga style in the press release but to me it’s just a solid flow that doesn’t deserve to be put in any category. The second track “ Last Man alive” has Code Breaker and Uncle P putting down another banger, a superb trumpet sample gives you a melodic flow to Codes style complimented with the rough snare and kick drum… And there’s cutting too!
Finally, Under Street Brigade hit you of with “Illtime”. The Emcees MC Sparkler, CultCam and Wild eye give you some serious food for thought. One of the Emcees, I’m guessing is Cult Cam gives you some French flavour which flows perfectly with a Hispanic guitar loop. Indeed this is one to look out for. In an age when UK Hip Hop labels come and go, here’s a label that I hope has the strength and the wisdom to keep keeping on.
