Evil Ed The Tournament Round One 12"

Northern YNR Records return in 2001 with a fat producer led release from Evil Ed and his Hidden Identity productions. For this project Ed has chosen to work with a variety of quality MCs and has come up with some heavy shit with extra thick beats to compliment them, reminding us of the reasons for his longevity. The first track sees A Potentially Dangerous Situation occur. It involves Usman ' the Heavy Weight Rhymer' taking the first half of each verse with Tommy Evans 'Undefeated in 30 Bouts' finishing them. Both MCs rap in their own unadulterated accents 'When it was your turn to shine I eclipsed it'. On this one the cuts are by Eddie Scratch and Evil Ed.

The second track in this Tournament opens with Eddie Scratch attending to cuts and scrapes and sees Task Force 'The Brothers McBain' dropping gems which are well up to their highest standard over a beat which was reminiscent of Kool G Rap's 'Ill Street Blues' upon first hearing. This Tournament of death is put forward as the new Aquarius - just picture that.

The final vocal track sees Jehst 'Undisputed Champion' show us why his is one of the UK's most overlooked lyricists on a more mellow track backed with a mellifluous vibraphone riff and the usual fat crisp drum sounds. It's Alien and the cuts by ED.

Backed with Edstrumentals of all the tracks and finishes up with a few accapella excerpts, which have probably been put on their for the contributors to cut up either live or on future releases. Overall a well produced quality release which is a recommended purchase.
