 DJ Format @ Fiddlers, Bristol

DJ Format has been making big waves in the UK scene for well over 2 years now, enhancing his already stellar reputation with a series of national tours to support his two massive albums; Music For The Mature B-Boy, and If You Can’t Join ‘Em…. Beat ‘Em.

This tour date at the Fiddlers was in support of the Remix EP featuring a host of remixed classics, and new tunes, with Format supported by both Abdominal & D-Sisive. The usual party hip-hop warm up was followed by the dirty funk of Breakin Bread’s Color Climax. The 4-piece funksters are famed for raising the temperature, and tempo, and did so with a set full of classic tunes, and a number of their own releases from Breakin Bread. By the time Color climax had bounced through ‘Crabwalk’ and ‘Jellyfish Popcorn’, and done their own rendition of ‘Cramp Your Style’ the crowd were ready for the main course.

Format and his two rhyme-slingers produced a slick fast paced set that included all the classic tunes, and a good degree of showmanship during the hour, as well as a large chunks of freestyle, top-of-the-dome improvisation brought to the fore. Abdominal oozes class and stage presence, bounding around the stage with ceaseless energy which only inspires the same from the crowd, whereas D-Sisive is more relaxed, and almost reserved in everything but his delivery. The duo link well both on wax, and on the stage, highlighted in the standout tunes of ‘Separated at Birth’ ‘Hit Song’ and ‘3 Feet Deep’.

If you haven’t already got a copy of the Remix EP go get it, and definitely get away from your PC long enough to see these three while they’re at the top of their game.
