Skinnyman & Wiley @ Shoestring Blue Mountain, Bristol live
After the recent closure of the Fez Club, Bristol, where Shoestring showcased some of the UK‘s finest talents, which included acts such as Klashnekoff, Sway, Jehst, Yungun and so many more, Shoestrings promoters and resident DJs, Dubious and GCD were forced to move venues. The new residence was going to be Blue Mountain for a special one off gig, before moving to Bristol’s good ship Thekla Social.
Blue Mountain notoriously known for its Breaks and Drum&Bass, decided to open its doors for a Hip Hop night.
When I arrived, the local talent of Koast was spitting with DJ FireManSam spinning the tunes. With a mixture of Bashment to Hip Hop, the DJ was definitely making the party bounce. Next up was the soon to be big, Se Fire. Unlike their normal shows, the focus was on their DJ, DJ Snafu. Snafu a talent in his own right, showcased some amazing turntable skills including; playing a Dubstep drum beat with a mixer and just one 1210! 1xtras finest, Daddy Skitz took over from Snafu after looking on in amazement to the young DJs skills.
Skitz tore the place up with tunes ranging from The Game to Klashnekoff. Local Epidemics MC, Bear was on hand to control the mic before handing it to MCD.
After Skitz got the crowd fully hyped it was time for Million Dan to tear it up, Dogz and Sledges was the highlight of his set.
Up next was a slightly drunken Skinnyman with members of the Mad Fam, their set started off with some big beats being played by DJ Nasah with Skinny hyping over the track. Skinnyman managed a drunken set of big tunes from Council Estate of Mind and the Foreign Beggars big tune, Hold On.
After a messy set the rest of the Mud Fam left the stage to make way for DJ Blazey, a guy with a lot of respect on the Grime and Dubstep scene. Skinnyman, instead of taking stage right, decided to stay on the mic for an exclusive Grime set. Skinnyman was also joined by local talent, Sarah B from Dutty Girl, usually a D&B MC but also shows serious skills as a Grime MC.
After a rowdy set from Blazey, Kiss Fm DJ Logan Sama took to the 1s and 2s to carry on the Dubstep and Grime flavours. Wiley applied the lyrics for a quick minute but the crowd didn't care, they were hyped enough already!
Whilst all this heavy UK madness was happening the upstairs room hosted Bristol’s D&B night Signal headlining Clipz. Big beats and bass lines were a-rumbling.
Shoestring definitely put on a big night that proved that UK Hip Hop is still alive and kicking. Check Shoestring at their new Residency at Thekla Social, Bristol on the 10th November for their 4th Birthday bash, with Jehst, Baby J, Joe Buddha and so many more big names.
