Ruffstylz Lyrics LP
‘Lyrics’ may well be one of the most aptly named LPs of the year, because the first full length album from Ruffstylz is certainly all about lyrical ability and flows. All too often nowadays, emcees are too lazy to try out different flows or creative wordplay, thankfully Ruff is bucking that trend. In fact the emceeing ability of this man is nothing short of baffling and there’s little wonder he managed to freestyle for half a day or whatever to break the world record.
The beats in part do let this project down, often being barebone affairs, which helps in displaying the lyrics better. Whilst this is probably a conscious decision, occasionally the intensity of the delivery can fry your brain a bit and maybe could have been softened by the production. That’s not to take anything away from this though, there are enough tunefully produced tracks to please that need, such as the monstrous ‘Desire’. There is however no denying that Ruffstylz’s lyrics rightly take centre stage and if you allow yourself to absorb even half of what comes out your speakers, you’re likely to hear more flow and lyrical variation than what you’ve heard the entire year previous. Get this and get educated.
