'Aint Nothin Like Hiphop Music' proclaim the Pharcyde on one of the tracks on this, Manchester producer duo, Rae & Christian's 2nd album which are perhaps the words to remember when giving this album your time. Grand Central and the Fat City lot get heavily criticized from some quarters about the lack of support they show the homegrown hiphop scene endlessly bringing in US MCs to appear on stage, compilations and producer led albums. I've always considered Grand Central to be from the ninjatune/mowax style of (tr*ph*p) stable and this album emphasizes it even more than their excellent 'Northern Sulphuric Soul' album did. Whereas that album had a quarter MCs, this album just has two tracks from the Pharcyde. Other vocal duties come from The Congos, Portugeuse Tania Maria, Kate Rogers, Siron and Bobby Womack (yep, him). This album takes the soul and funk of the first album and stretches it further. All of the tracks are masterful soul pieces, headnodding, infectious and beautifully crafted. It's not going to be everyones cup of tea, but those familiar with the first album who appreciated the Veba and Texas tracks should really enjoy listening to this.
