Micall Parkinsun The Working Class Dad LP
Like his namesake, Parkinsun is right at the top of his game. Not quite in the same legendary category as the Barnsley boy, but this Working Class Dad has brought us a masterpiece of fresh rhymes, production, and all-around niceness.
Like the chat show host, his 12 track LP features a list of guests that add a little more substance and weight to the package; Jehst, Kyza Wordsmith, Skribblah & Dubbledge. From the Welcome, through to So What you get the impression this is something to take note of, and is gonna make waves…. big badass Tsunami waves. Parkinsun paints detailed messages, experiences he’s been through and seen, especially in I Don’t Want to Stay Here, the guy is a proud Dad that’s clearly had his focus shifted and narrowed with fatherhood. Did It is more of the same, no gimmicks, no limits, just a top beat, and punchy message-laden rhymes, that then leads into Combo a more braggadocio track, but one of the standout tunes never the less.
Guns of Navarone with the enigma of Billy Brimstone, is one of the tunes that got multiple plays…. It sounds better sped up, with the simple snares and kicks ticking alongside the delivery of the impressive ciphers, metronomically efficient. Parky displays his Art form on the aptly titled ‘Artform’. Vying for standout track with ‘Working Class Theme’, this is a different kettle of fish from the rest of the LP. An elaborate mesh of strings, guitar and horns, woven with another lyrical offering of the highest order, which sets the tone for the end of the LP. Working Class Theme is a head nodding up-tempo anthem that finishes off the album perfectly, with a rewind and a smile.

A standout LP. Pushing Beefeaterz all the way so far for Album of 2006.
