Zygote Beats To Make You Frown LP

Why would a beat make you frown? If it was rubbish maybe, but quite why Zygote has named his LP this is unclear, as none of the beats on offer could be considered rubbish. In fact, “Beats to Make You Upside-Down Frown” would have been a better title in my humble opinion.

19 tracks deep, this LP is made up of a few previously released tracks, but the majority not, mixed in with a few Zygotestrumentals. Anyone familiar with this guy’s previous work won’t be surprised to hear that the album features the likes of HUG, Tim Dog and The Chubby Alcoholic. However, Zygote has also found some newbie’s to bless his beats, with Verb T, Kashmere and Lewis Parker (amongst others) all featuring. Whilst I can’t deny, HUG and Zygote seems like the most comfortable and productive pairing, the tune of the album is “Superglue” feat. Lewis P. The snyth-vocal sample sounds almost like a guitar power chord, which power drives the production like something nuclear. Consistently throughout, Zygote picks refreshing, choice breaks and spices them up with some really interesting samples / noises, like “The Peddler” feat. HUG, which has some futuristic shit going on. It almost sounds like a beat that could have appeared on a Chuck D project c. Hyenas In The Desert era!

If the fact you own some of these tunes already is a turn off, then Zygote has come up with the perfect solution. This LP will be released alongside an EP which will contain all the vocal tracks on the LP which haven’t been released previously. A master stroke! And whilst I can’t help but feel this LP could have had a better range of emcees featuring on it, there’s no doubt that Mr. Z has got beats for days which should see better recognition on the horizon.
