Broadway Project One Divided Soul LP

The 3rd album from the Bristol producer. My usual grumble about instrumental albums surfaces: “it would be surely be enhanced by some vocals!” as these beats aren't interesting enough in their own right to have much replay value in my 'umble – though it must be noted most tracks have live instrumentation. It is a sound that may appeal to fans of DJ Shadow and the more abstract West Coast beatmakers.

The fact that Broadway Project's music is often now written to order for brief adverts for the likes of Guinness and Max Factor is clear here: the best track (not song) 'Of' sounds like it was written for a mobile phone ad and is too short - it sounded like it was developing in epic style but ended just as this listener's anticipation was building. 'Musician as commercial artist' is a reality of creative life, but it seems that the art may have suffered here with a showreel album.
