Envy Set Yourself On Fire LP
Envy is 20 year old Nicola Varley, an MC and battle rapper from Manchester. Produced by Lady Sov's producer Medasyn, this young lady has got flows and there are some polished beats here. Probably stands to reason to say that if you like Sov you may well like Envy. It's good to see a Northern MC getting a push!
The lack of other vocalists here makes the album a little monotonous as arguably Envy is yet to develop fully as an artist. 'Chips in my Dip' stands out for it's hook (the song doesn't sound like it's tongue in cheek!) and the highlight song for me is the title track. The sometimes generic lyrical content means this release lacks replay value to me at present. Here's looking forward to more music and prominence from Envy and the rest of the UK's female MCs.
