 Infesticons Gun Hill Road LP

This record is epic, twisted, original, banging, experimental and definitely (and this is the most important element from my eyes) INTERESTING - I'm sure its got summat to do with having a concept behind some intensely satisfying music which makes you listen more carefully and again and again - and that's why I've had this on repeat for the last three weeks non-stop. I've listened to it for ages and tried and failed four times to write this review - why? - cos it consists of multiple levels which grow upon you ….it's a quite organic record in that respect….. like the deeper you wanna search the more it gives you without failing to satisfy the reasons why your listening in the first instance. To me that's what I call a classic record - something which eats you up from the inside and gets you reaching for the rewind. I'm kinda dry that after all this time that's all I can spout - just wobbling on about "organic levels" and all this bullshit - well all I can say is ….. listen to this complex record and then try to bag it up into a review that makes sense. Go on - I dare ya….in fact I want you to do it - go listen. Anyways let me get onto the descriptive bit about this proper fine release from the growing Big Dada stable of sorted products

As a whole this LP is built on original sonic sounds in deadly combination with sharp sarky lyricism - all the tracks get your head bopping whilst the beats get filled with a proper textual message for all the young ghetto fabulous wannabe skulls out there (i.e. basically - you ain't gonna spread your ideas nowhere further so it stops here). This Mike Ladd geezer is on a mission to prevent the takeover of jiggyfied watered down piss stained sugar-fuelled MTV Rap n' Bullshit ….. and trust me this type of record is the best answer to prevent the spread of that kind of noise pollution. A straight up cerebral album which hits you on many levels through fast, twisted lyrical flow and beats which transcend whatever definition you wanna give (example - check BMS of the Indelible MC's ripping it whilst some operatic lady flips it in the background on Cave Theme - how does this work? - I don't know but it does without a doubt). To explain the concepts behind the album in a short review ain't really gonna work well for my head or do justice to Mike Ladds album - go listen to the record and check the message behind the message. Its gonna be intense and funny all in one - you just know that from the intro to the LP as told by Blabbacon the Storyteller. Pucca.

I'm not going to front - I like some tracks of the 13 tracks more than others and think particular tunes stand out as being proper genius…. but as an LP unit they fit snugly together and make smooth listening for an hour of your life. Mike Ladd stands out as a strong rapper - and he is helped with elements from the Indelible MC's, Anti-Pop Consortium, Saul Williams, Co-Flow… etc etc. This collection of heavyweight abstract n' cutting minds produce some boggling words ranging from mashed wisdom thru sports strategies into pure mathematical formulae - basically it jumps all over the shop….. blinding. I'm not going to describe every track cos its up to you heads out there to check this release and chose your own adventure - however my personal highlights come thick n' plenty. I'm loving the Precious Theme - the dirty electro bass is so so so so electric with a hook that nags at your head till your neck cracks (turn it up!)….or the string foundations being pushed thru the hook in the chorus of Hero Theme or the guitar stabs inside Tiger Theme n' sub-bass squiggle lurking within Grinder Theme….or what about the dark funk being laced around some punk bizness during Chase Theme. The number one theme inside this LP has got to be good and inspired experimental music - badness!!! I don't normally rate albums out of ten - and I'm not going to start now…. especially when all it needs is three words to fulfil my role as a reviewer of this LP - THIS RECORD ROCKS. Safe then - that's sorted….a tough assignment - wheres my walkman…. did I get it across right? Dunno - have a listen….. its worth it - just remember to fuck the Majesticons.
