Nelson George (Ed.) Best Music Writing 2008 book

A lot of print journalism is disposable due to the nature of medium (papers and magazine). The Best Music Writing series is a worthwhile attempt to collect the best music writing for posterity and this edition does cover everything from Soulja Boy to Dimmu Borgir. It only covers music writing in the (90% American) English language so it's scope is limited. Nelson George is this year's editor so there is enough hip hop here: a catch up with the evergreen Whodini, articles on the Wu, BIG, the Kansas City hip hop scene as well as a few funk and jazz articles.
