 cLOUDEAD Dead Dogs Two 12"

It's been a while since the last cLOUDEAD release and turns out they have a new album 'Ten' ready to go so this tasty features the title track, an instrumental track 'Mulholland Drive' and a remix of 'Dead Dogs Two' by 'electronic' band Boards Of Canada. The thin lines between Ninja Tune & its hiphop son Big Dada have been merging recently with Blockhead & Sixtoo ready to release on the main label and with 12"s like this and Diplo coming out on Big Dada.
'Dead Dogs Two' is an intense track with Doseone and why? sharing harmonious rhymes/voices somewhere not quite MCing or singing or talking. The majority of the beats by Odd Nosdam are very hiphop but there's a big hammond drone fading in and out and a squelchy walking bassline. A haunting and interesting track. 'Mullholland Drive' seems like a filler in comparison with the other two tracks, a song barely registering with its electronic drone and avant garde drum track.
Boards Of Canada don't really turn in a remix as much as re-write the whole track leaving just the vocal which goes through the odd filter as well. The new backing features lots of analog keyboard scales, much more electronic sounding drum clicks and a mutating and distorting sitar track before building up and finishing on a single piano chord that seems to linger for minutes after it's actually faded.

An interesting release, one likely to open up cLOUDEAD more to the electronic audience with the B.O.C. remix rather than to gain any new followers within the hiphop scene where they remain too leftfield to grace the unadventurous hiphop listeners collection.
