Second single from the living legends latest ‘Soul Survivor II’ album. Title track ‘It’s a Love Thing’ features those trademark sensual horns alongside a laidback b-line whilst CL Smooth rocks the mic in that effortless fashion. A nice female vocal accompaniment from Denosh makes this a tidy but lightweight slice of relationship based storytelling. The flipside ‘Appreciate’ moves with more conviction through a simple guitar riff and harmonious vocal snippets – this track pours forth in waves of goodtime nostalgia – all prompted by CL’s silky delivery. Overall, a platter for those who love headnod moments – older longtime fans might feel the title track is Pete Rock by numbers but the flipside is guaranteed to generate more emotion cos when this duo snap together they’re truly untouchable.
