 Outerlimitz Suicide Prevention LP

Hailing from the Windy City, Outerlimitz drop the superb “Suicide Prevetion”. Forget the laid back, jazzy styles that you’ve heard from Chi-Town before, because this is nothing like it! In fact in some respects the style is far more like that championed by the South. This LP has the sort of energy and creativity associated with Outkast, but far from biting, this truly is an Outerlimitz style.

Unfortunately I appear to have mislaid the track listings for this release which is a shame, as I’d like to see the production credits. I’m fairly sure producer Silence is responsible for most of the work here and if he is, he deserves a big pat on the back. For this LP’s main strength is the solid beat-backbone that allows the emcees to stand tall. The range of sounds that are used to embellish what could have been plain-Jane beats add layer upon layer to every track. As a result, emcees Qwa and He. Ilsent have almost flawless backing music to lace with some high class rhyming and concepts.

“Suicide Prevention” is a release that gets better and better after each listen. Whilst a fat slab of that listenablity comes from the great production, the emcees pull out enough from their rhyme book to leave this release well-rounded. Fans of stuff like the Living Legends are likely to love this, but everyone should still give it a try.
