 Sinsemilla Destiny 12"

Sinsemilla are a duo consisting of DJ Topspin and MC H-Bomb, and as the label seems to be supporting the local Seattle scene, I’m fairly sure that’s from where the herald. Anyway onto the actual record itself, A-side is ‘Destiny’ has some ground breaking production that is some timeless shit. DJ Topspin has out done himself on this one, sweet piano loops, smooth beats and more samples thrown in the mix, It all fits together like a puzzle. Unlike a puzzle that you normally find in the bottom of your cupboard it has no pieces missing either, as the lyrics are also of top quality. Not a very original theme, in that it was their Destiny to become hiphoper’s. But its done with such skill you forget all that, the flow is on point, laid-back, plus it never falls apart throughout the track. Yep very tasty track indeed, in fact by the time I heard this track I was adamant it was worth the money, even if the B-side was wack.

So with that on my Brain, I flip the record over to ‘Haters’. WHAT THE FUCK? Its better, is that possible? This track has bare funk, so again with lovely production. In fact the production is quite simple, blunt beats, only one soulful sample, but it works so well. I love tracks which have silent gaps for the emcee to shine for a few seconds, this track has a few such breaks and it works well. The lyrics are of a fairly common hiphop theme, haters. But like the first, its done with so much skill and fluidity that I just don’t care.

I really can’t get enough of this record, I’m not going to herald them as the next big thing as its only a single. But if I saw their material again I would for sure reach for it, but until I find more this record will do me just nicely. These guys are giving Seattle a good name, but outside the states not sure how easy it will be to find, but if you do see it be sure to check it. Ahh, I gotta go check it again...
