Clandestien Ancillary Cover bw/ Utter Shit 7"
Heading out of Perth - Oz, Clandestien come properly nasty on a 7”, as you’d expect from a group who title sounds like a medieval monster! Ok, so clandestine actually means underground, which is probably apt for the UK audience as it’s rare we hear much Oz-hop. Still, for those willing to dig (and with Suspect-Packages Australian sister site this shouldn’t be too hard) there is plenty to enjoy.
“Ancillary Cover” doesn’t really do the job though, as whilst the dark production is alright, that special vibe seems to be missing from both the production and the plody rhyming. “Utter Shit” is more complete as a track, mainly because of the far higher standard of production displayed, but also the emcees pass the mic beautifully and show bags more character when they’ve got hold of it.
This isn’t the best 7” you’ll hear, but if you like a slice of dark hiphop, this may well float your boat as it’s not a bad release. For me though, there’s better Australian hiphop out there for the masses to discover.
