‘Subculture’ has one of those real weird beats on it, real synth style with mad beats. I always admire producers, in this case Divine Styler, who manage to produce such a manic sound but manage to give it some order, You never find yourself thinking ‘What the hells going on’. It kind of sounds a bit like those novelty bands who play junk from a scrap yard, you know like old tubes and bins. The emcees Tax & Ryu have the ability to ride this beat too, keeping their timing over the complex structure of the production. Although this track is kind of mad, I don’t feel its one of those that you need a real open mind to listen too, its still hiphop track all the way. ‘Windows’ produced by Vin Skully is more ‘organised’ than the first. A rolling deep sample, with break loops is a foundation for the emcees to show how they can flow on a totally different beat to the first. They do so with great ease, like the sample, it feels like their rolling over track. The emcees have very good rhyme punctuation and can add variety in each stanza, which leads to this track being another well worth your queens heads affair. In fact, this whole 12 is well worth the wax it was pressed on, so don’t be a chicken head, track it down.
