This is Monster MAGIC - these two are a blinding partnership. This LP or Mix/Compilation or whatever you want to call it - actually fuck that ... IT IS an LP cos they take tracks and freshen them up bigstyle with careful creativity - its original and fantastic and as such I reckon its an album (sort of!!!). Anyways this release (arf arf!) is amazing - collated from only 7" records this skills and rare funk/soul and whathaveyou on show here is nothing short of class. Listening over it - it takes you on a journey through some strange tunes whilst maintaining a clear purpose (to have a good time whilst listening - a proper party mix!). This was recorded continuously in one take and live using two turntables n' one sampler as they both spent a solid week preparing for the Future Primitive Soundsession. When it first came out it was changing hands for 50 dollars a pop and then after that it was only available from their live shows (as they toured the Brainfreeze Mix across the US). This is the sound of two skilled geezers diggin out there most favouristist cuts (e.g. the Slurpee Song!!! Yup thats right a 7-11 based song - mental!) and blending them inside out - just check for the original samples behind stuff such as Shadow's Organ Donor n' J5's Jayou n' listen as they both rip Cut Chemist's Remix of Shadows Number Song out through a mangle n' strip it out bare only to lace it back together again in frantic but seamless motion. Honestly I can't really describe how fresh and invigorating it is to listen to certain sections of this LP - I only hope it gets a proper release so everybody can understand what I am trying vainly to get across.....this rocks the spot with a passion....innit... it does ... it just rocks... BIGSTYLE! Just don't mash up your tape heads, stylus, lazer beams or whatever as you rewind bits of this over and over and over.....A+ the class is in session :-) P.S. Sorry for the shiteness of this review....its a bit mighty
difficult to get across my feelings for this record as I do love it...
don't know why really... its got vibe but the skipful and for me
personally the right level n' ratio of abstract to head scratching ("I
know that loop from somewhere") styles. I'm saying this is pretty
perfect as mixes go aren't I...DAMN thats a statement but I stay true
to that....anyways - wheres the European tour? .... HUH???!
