Just read that title. Blunt and to the point. But hang on, these "people" who Darkleaf seemingly have little time for could be their listening
audience. Some dudes may be offended. But that's for another day - we're here to review Darkleaf's debut album. Comprising of Jahil, Longevity,
Metalogic, Kemit and Breakestra's Mixmaster Wolf, this Los Angeles collective specialise in very serious music. So expect slow-paced drumbeats
and gritty samples. Sadly, 'Fuck The People' is nothing memorable. The group's intense style is acceptable enough for a little while but it gets
samey. 'Spanish Fly' is a highlight, sounding like music for a bullfight, and there's a nice afro-funk sample used on 'Quotolude'. But for the
remainder, it's a bit of a chore to listen to. The beats are often more clunky than funky, and too many of the raps verge on spoken word. That's
fine for one or two tracks, but to spread it over a 45-minute LP really isn't a good idea. I'm sure other people will like this, but to me it
doesn't have that extra spark to make it a worthwhile purchase.
