The Lootpack have been round a while, they produced the single 'Mary Jane' for Tha Alkaholiks. After more collaborations on the Liks' albums, Lootpack released a couple of singles on Stones Throw in '98, which were pretty tight. This LP got nuff props and recommendations off loads of peeps so I though I'd part with a few quid and purchase it. Got home, put it on and... Shit, this shit is wack. The first 2 tracks are pretty dull, weak flows and unimpressive beats. 'Whenimondamic' and 'The Anthem' impress though. This is going to require a few more listens i feel. FFWD to 1 week later... After a few plays, mmmmm its kinda nice. Madlibs beats are fuckin' lovely and the production is wicked. The MCs flow quite well, but the lyrics get a little tiresome after a while (how many battle lyrics can 1 album have??? "Crushin' wack MCs blah de blah blah" do some other topics for fucks sake! Variety is the spice of life). Guest spots from Defari, Dilated Peoples and the Liks are welcome for a bit of a change. After a bottle of red wine (red wine???? - BSE) it sounds even better though. Why does getting pissed improve music? I dunno. Headz are going to dig this shit I reckon. Nothing too new or groundbreaking but good anyway. I've been converted, this LP is dope-ish, like that soap on a rope. © ukhh.com 1999 - 2000 |
