The Brothers McBain have done it again with another quick flung out promo. This time Chester and Farma repeat their sequence of UK versions of popular US hits by recording a version over Black Rob's beat. Again as with Grafdabusup they prove that they can equal the skills of the original MCs but probably improve on the lyrical content too. For me this track possibly doesn't reach the standard set by the previous record, but it suits a different purpose and if judged as such is outstanding. Sometimes I think the beat is a bit commercial, but I'm being influenced by the fact that Westwood both played and charted it. It is really pretty raw. So the most important thing in this review is to comment on the vocals - well you know the style and quality, so enough said on that. The rhyme is about all the things about the UK that might make you say 'Wha Blow' e.g. 'having a dream and not knowing what it means', 'not getting paid for a gig', 'catching your girl in bed with your friend, 'kids killing kids' and simply 'the streets'. You'll get the idea what 'Wha Blow' means. They say that it is all out of control, and what its like to be on the dole. They aren't explaining what they say, it is more like they are throwing issues or topics into a forum and if you think about each phrase there is a lot to contemplate. Conversely, just jump up and Party. As this was written copies were still available by mail order through the Low Life web site, but you have to be fast. 'I live an English life and I'm here to let you know 'Wha Blow'!!' Bad Point: There is only 1 track and it is only a limited promo. © ukhh.com 1999 - 2000 |
